On March 31st, 2022, we hosted our second Monthly Update Live AMA on YouTube. Our goal with these AMA’s is to inform the DataUnion community on the progress happening behind the scenes to continue building this project with your feedback & complete transparency.
DataUnion is on a mission to build a fair and equitable data ecosystem by creating a DataUnions-as-a-service platform that produces co-owned AI-ready data sets and insights. We are striving to create a global network of organisations, companies and individuals coming together to form DataUnions to upload, annotate and verify data sets, making them AI-ready while sharing in the value created. Everyone who participates in a DataUnion is a winner — ultimately, building a better data ecosystem, with more transparency and innovation, for everybody. The icing on the cake is that the AI algorithms trained on top of this data will also share value with the contributors to the DataUnion.
We invite you to take part in this journey alongside us and become a pioneer of a new, fair & equitable data frontier.
Season 1 has officially ended, and Season 2 is about to kick off
With our first round of seed funding wrapped up, we are well on our way to transitioning from an Ocean Protocol grant project to a funded business model. More information on this will be available in the coming weeks.
Ocean V4 has launched and brings with it exciting new features
2021 has been a fantastic year of growth for Ocean Protocol — the protocol that DataUnion collaborative protocol is built on top of — 2022 is looking to be even better.
The latest update brings with it:
The DataUnion Ecosystem is growing
We believe that collaborative work leads to bigger and better products, so we are happy to announce a shift from the standard building-in-public model toward building-with-public. This new model will allow us to advance our ecosystem, integrate with more blockchains, and benefit from multi-project learnings/experiences.
We are also sending out an open invitation to all projects looking to start with Ocean Protocol and DataUnion. We want to continue exploring how our community can grow and work with others to develop more innovative projects and ideas to build a more fair and equitable data economy.
Our team is now 15 developers strong and growing! If you’re interested in participating in the creation of a DataUnion or staying up to date with our roadmap, join us every Friday for our Governance Call. You can find more information by joining our Discord community.
We’re also pleased to announce that Chris Bruno has joined the DataUnion team as Chief Marketing Officer. As part of the ongoing development of the DataUnion ecosystem, we’re excited to grow the team with a specific focus on marketing for the project.
Planet Computer Vision Update
In season one, our initial proof of concept DataUnion, Planet Computer Vision (PCV), started with its alpha release. Since, we have had hundreds of people collaborating by uploading, annotating and verifying image sets for specific bounties.
Closing off season one, many of you might be wondering, “what will happen to all of my current rewards?” Don’t Panic! All participants that took part throughout this season have been recorded and a snapshot has been taken — a special thank you is on its way!
With the launch of Ocean V4, we expect to get the reward system working as we can deploy a datatoken pool on a chain that actually will make paying out rewards an option. In the future, you will be able to claim your rewards by logging into your mantis app and clicking on the ‘release rewards’ button.
MARKETING 3.0: Building-with-public model
Our primary marketing objective is to educate the public on the value of collective data as a shared asset. We want to enable the entire globe to start pooling their data together in exchange for a monetary reward. This radical new approach to data ownership will bring back the value of data into the hands of the people and away from Big Data and Big Tech — a massive step toward a more democratised and equitable data economy.
Our shift from build-in-public to build-with-public facilitates a connection between our core dev team and the DataUnion community. This new pipeline will accelerate the development of the DataUnions-as-a-service framework (DUaaS) while giving our community a chance to participate in this evolutionary process. More importantly, this will also provide our dev team with necessary and critical feedback to better build a platform that everyone is proud of.
